Replica of Picasso's, Guernica. In 1937 Pablo Picasso, in his distinctive Synthetic Cubist style, depicted the Basque capital of Guernica after an air raid on April 26. German planes all but destroyed the city and its inhabitants. This is Picasso's emotional response to the wanton slaughter of the town. A replica of this emblem now hangs in the United Nations building in rememberance of the unforgettable terror and suffering.
